Why locals go
Huế draws roughly 4 million visitors a year and, unlike Hội An, the majority are Vietnamese — it ranked No.9 in Booking.com's domestic-search list as of December 2024, and its promotion to centrally-governed city status in January 2025 set off a fresh wave of domestic attention. Locals come to eat as much as to sightsee: in July 2026, 30-plus artisans cooked 300 bowls of bún bò Huế at once for a national record. The food-pilgrimage identity is the point — bún bò at dawn, royal cuisine at lunch, chè at night, Citadel in between. Come January–April for the mild, driest stretch; September–December is the heaviest rain in urban Vietnam and May–August is furnace heat.
