The cash "deal" runs 3–5x the app fare — one 2024 police-sourced case turned a roughly 500,000 VND (~$20) ride into a 2,900,000 VND charge. This isn't the fake-driver scam: the app match is genuine. The move comes after — your driver, or a tout claiming "your driver canceled," pushes you to cancel in-app and settle in cash. Documented outcomes include the inflated cash fare, drivers canceling after pickup to pocket an unrecorded ride, and cancellation fees burned on your side. The moment the trip goes off-app, you lose the GPS trail, the fare lock, and Grab's complaint channel — the three things that made it a Grab ride.
